THE Examiner is on the move!

The familiar building on Queen Street South has been sold to the University of Huddersfield.

Huddersfield University Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Slee said: "The University has purchased the Examiner building as part of its continuing estates development strategy.

"We will be finalising plans regarding the use of the building over the coming months.’’

Examiner editor Roy Wright said: "The University have ambitious plans and we are happy to work with them.

"Queen Street South is a great building and a great location but no longer really suited to our business needs.

"Our main aim now is to find the right premises in Huddersfield.

"We have given a brief to all local commercial agents. This is a matter that needs resolving quickly, but it’s important we find the right premises in Huddersfield and as central as possible."

The building currently houses the newspaper’s editorial and advertising staff along with its archives and library stretching back more than 150 years.

The staff moved into the purpose-built headquarters exactly 20 years ago next week.
