In our Nostalgia gallery this week, we're going back to March 1987 — and a very important appeal.

The Examiner launched a £500,0000 appeal for a bodyscanner for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary at the start of 1987.

The entire sum was raised by August 1987 – months ahead of schedule - and the scanner was installed early in 1988.

The gallery features various groups fundraising for the appeal from swimming clubs to school pupils — spot anyone you recognise?

Also in this week's Nostalgia:

  • It was all aboard for Lepton County First School as 40 pupils enjoyed a school trip to Huddersfield Bus Station

  • Remember Holmfirth publican Ken Turner? The former Ford Inn landlord was awarded the 'Oscar' of the drinks trade, due mainly to his work for local and national charities

  • We've got cracking team snaps from the Huddersfield Sunday Football League and prize-winners from the Hudson School of Dancing

  • And take a look at the Cubs in this week's gallery — as well as performers from the 1987 Kirkburton Gang Show
