A FATHER from Huddersfield will go on trial today accused of murdering his four-year-old son.

Christopher Hawkins, of Slaithwaite is also charged with the attempted murder of his teenage daughter.

Hawkins, 47, pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing to killing his son Ryan at his home in Hill Top on September 23 last year.

He also denied the attempted murder of 14-year-old Donna Hawkins on the same day.

Ryan, who had just celebrated his fourth birthday, was found with nine stab wounds and was pronounced dead at hospital.

Donna suffered 23 stab wounds but survived the attack.

The trial, at Leeds Crown Court, is expected to last seven to 10 days.
