LOW stocks at a food bank in Huddersfield have been given a boost by a grocer who could not deliver his orders due to bad weather.

The recent bad weather forced a food delivery driver to abandon much of his route – missing out 44 customers.

But rather than see the produce go to waste, Chris Long, 37, is donating the fruit and vegetables – worth about £1,000 – to the Huddersfield Methodist Missions Food Bank with the support of his customers.

Seventeen of them are giving the value of their veg boxes to the food bank.

Chris, who is a franchisee for organic food company, Riverford, said: “I usually deliver to my Huddersfield customers but the snow made it very tricky to get to some of them. And then over the weekend the roads turned to ice making many of them impassable.”
