They are getting ready for a foodie paradise in Huddersfield.

St George’s Square is being taken over by a host of stalls offering foods from around the globe, locally brewed ales and ciders, delicious desserts and more.

Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival returns from August 7 to 10, once more organised by the Huddersfield Partnership.

As well as allowing local producers to showcase their goods, the festival will also feature live cooking demonstrations, kids’ entertainment and live music.

From Indian and Thai cuisine to traditional British pies, locally produced cheeses and stalls run by Huddersfield eateries, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to what to eat.

And you won’t go thirsty - specialist cider and ale companies will run stalls alongside local pubs, as well as specialist coffee shops and Pimms and prosecco stalls.

If you’ve any room left, there will be desserts galore - locally made ice cream, crepes, luxury chocolate and traditional sweets will be on offer to satisfy any visitors sweet tooth.

Chefs appearing at this year’s festival include Phil Leverington, the Demo Chef, who creates dishes from locally sourced ingredients using just one dish and one pan.

He will be joined by David Stewart-Pybus, of the John Smith’s Stadium who won Chef of the Year at the Harrogate Business Awards during his role as head chef at Goldsborough Hall in Knaresborough.

Also sharing his top tips is Huddersfield’s Ashley Coley, who specialises in seafood cuisine and Andie Laidlaw, part of the team that runs Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Bradford.

The demonstrations will run from 11.30am-4pm on Thursday and Friday and 11am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival at Dusk will see local bands and artists take to the stage to entertain the crowds as the sun goes down in St George’s Square.

The main festival bars and food stalls will be open until 10pm on Friday August 8 and Saturday August 9, allowing revellers to enjoy a pint, some tasty food and take in the musical atmosphere.

The Voice quarter-finalist Georgia Harrup, from Lepton,will headline the festival on the Friday night, bringing her soulful 1940s charm to the square.

On Saturday party band Helter Skelter will headline the stage, with performances from Huddersfield Community Gospel Choir and Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra lined up for Sunday’s festivities.

There’s also plenty to keep the kids entertained at this year’s festival, with fun activities and craft sessions in the Kids Zone.

In addition, there will be face painting and live street entertainment - making the festival a fun-filled day out for all the family.

Chocolate workshops, pasta making, vegetable modelling and art sessions with recycled materials will run 10am-4.45pm on Thursday and Friday, 11am-4.45pm on Saturday and noon-4.30pm on Sunday.
