A COUNCILLOR has expressed concern at the future for Huddersfield’s Food and Drink festival.

Clr Christine Stanfield, who chairs the Huddersfield Area Committee, said she was still unhappy about big rises in charges for stalls at this August’s festival.

And she was angry at the response at Wednesday’s Kirklees Council meeting from councillors who said they believed the festival would still be a success.

“They are hoping, as we all are, that another 100,000 people will come to the festival.

“I too hope that but the economy has changed dramatically in 12 months and people will not be spending as much as they did in the past.

“To put up charges by such huge amounts is a big worry”.

Some of the fees have risen by up to 150% but the Huddersfield Town Centre Partnership, who organise the event, insist they have to cover costs.
