A Huddersfield firm has got behind the campaign to help a young cancer boy.

Staff at Rockwood Garden Centre in Grange Moor want to bring some cheer to the family of young Harry Buckley.

The six-year-old is battling neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer and his family have been told it is terminal.

But they are looking ahead to Christmas and now Rockwood staff hope to help them by organising a family fun day which will take place on Sunday, December 15, between noon and 4pm.

On the day there will be donkey rides, a Santa’s grotto, children’s treasure hunt, face painting, raffles and other events.

Co-owner Jonathon Schofield said: “It is the biggest event we have organised to date and is very exciting.

“The staff and our concessions are raising money for Harry, who at just six years old is living on borrowed time.

“Harry was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer two years ago and has undergone months of treatment including a nine-hour operation to remove the tumour in his stomach.

“But despite doctors’ best efforts they told his parents Sarah and Paul the heartbreaking news that their son’s condition is now terminal.

“The monies raised on the day will help ease the financial burden of the family, provide care for Harry and allow the family to enjoy some trips in the precious time that they have left.

“The family are currently looking forward to their trip to Lapland which has been funded by ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation.”

Harry’s grandparents, Steve and Evelyn, who live in Fenay Bridge, organised a fundraiser last weekend at Rowley Hill Club, Lepton.

Steve, 66, said: “To look at Harry on a good day you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong with him, apart from he looks a bit on the thin side.

“He is a beautiful boy – very loving and adores his younger brother Callum. We love him to bits.”

Harry’s dad Paul was brought up in Huddersfield and attended King James’ School, Almondbury. The family now live in Otley.

Rockwood Garden Centre is on Wakefield Road at Grange Moor.

The garden centre was previously a garage which was transformed over a six-month period and opened its doors to the public in April, 2012.

Tickets for Santa’s Grotto will be available on the day or can be purchased from the centre.
