From jubilee market celebrations and coffee mornings to street fairs and fun days, there’s plenty of days out for the whole family looking for free jubilee celebration things to do in Huddersfield.

The nation celebrates 60 years of the Queen this weekend, but is it also a special time for your family or friends? The mayor’s office is looking for people celebrating a 60th birthday or 60th wedding anniversary to go along to an afternoon tea at Dewsbury Town Hall on Saturday June 2. If you enjoy fetes then head to the Longwood Village Group Diamond Jubilee Coffee Morning, also on the Saturday from 10am-1pm. There’s children’s fancy dress, horse racing game, stalls and a raffle to get you in the jubilee spirit.

Also on Saturday, June 2 11am-3pm, there’s crown-making and face-painting to keep the children occupied at Dewsbury Market’s jubilee events. At Huddersfield Market, the same event takes place on Monday June 4, 10am-3pm. For more information call 01484 223730.

Saturday’s a busy day, with another jubilee event, this time at Colne Valley Museum in Golcar. Between 2-5pm, Colne Valley Museum’s Victorian kitchen will be busy baking royal dishes, and there’s a jubilee exhibition. Call 01484 659762. If you’re looking for free jubilee things to do in Huddersfield and want more a more active jubilee celebration event, head to the Dewsbury Museum Jubilee Trail. Throughout the half term holiday, except for June 5, children can follow the activity trail and learn more about the queen’s visit in 1954. Call 01924 325100 for details.

On the Sunday, June 3, Skelmanthorpe Cricket Club is holding a Jubilee Street Party with a 50s fancy dress theme. It starts at 2pm and there’s food, games, dancing and fundraising fun, such as best dressed wheelbarrow, best crown, bouncy castle, stocks, and an egg and spoon race. Proceeds go to charities including Huddersfield Down Syndrome Support Group.

Also on Sunday is an informal Jubilee Picnic in the Park at Mirfield Showground. Original plans had to be cancelled but hardworking volunteers have managed to get a Mirfield jubilee celebration together, and families can take a picnic and enjoy the day. The Lord Lieutenant’s representative will plant a Jubilee Oak Tree at 12pm and then there’ll be a ‘day of eventful surprises’.

You might have also received some information through your door about your street getting together for a traditional street party. These are a great way to meet your neighbours and take part in an old tradition.
