HUDDERSFIELD has lost out to neighbour Bradford in the race to become the new Monopoly town.

Bradford beat off challenges from other shortlisted Yorkshire towns, including Doncaster, Halifax, Wakefield and Scarborough, to have a new game made based on its local landmarks.

This new version of Monopoly follows the recent crowning of Bradford as UNESCO City of Film and its unofficial title as curry capital of England.

Games company Winning Moves, who will manufacture the Bradford game under licence from Hambro, will ask the public to vote for property spaces on the new board. Around 30 West Yorkshire landmarks will replace the likes of Oxford Street and Park Lane.

Locals will also be asked for suggestions for the board’s most expensive site, which is Mayfair in the London game. Frontrunners are:

Alhambra Theatre

Bradford City Hall

Brontë Parsonage Museum

National Media Museum

Salts Mill

The Bradford Monopoly game will be in shops from October.
