A DRUG smuggler was caught with several kilos of cannabis.

But Huddersfield man Aldwin Renardo Gooden insisted he needs large amounts of cannabis for medicinal reasons when he appeared in court.

Gooden pleaded guilty yesterday to importing the drug.

But Gooden, 44, of Gilbert Grove, Crosland Moor, who was stopped by the UK Border Agency at Gatwick Airport after stepping off a flight from Jamaica, must wait to hear his fate.

A further hearing is to take place at which he will attempt to convince the court the drug was only for his personal use.

He pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court today to importing a quantity of herbal cannabis on October 4.

However, the court heard there is a dispute concerning the weight of the drugs because the packaging was included on the scales.

The further hearing will now take place at the court on February 4 when Gooden will argue that the several kilos he was caught with were only for his own personal use.
