A MAN has appeared in court after smashing up a company’s CCTV camera with a piece of wood.

Michael Folan claimed he had no recollection of the incident at the Engage Gear car dealership in Lockwood.

However he was caught when footage showed him wrecking the security camera on December 15.

Folan, 61, pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said that the Albert Street premises belonged to Mark Hollingsworth.

Mr Hollingsworth arrived to find the smashed security equipment together with a sign that had been pulled away the wall.

Magistrates were told that the estimated amount of damage caused was £600.

Folan, of Bradley Mills Lane in Bradley Mills, was identified from the footage and arrested by police.

Mike Sisson-Pell, mitigating, said his client couldn’t remember the incident but admitted his guilt after viewing the camera footage.

He said that Folan had a long list of convictions to his name but more recently these had been limited to nuisance offences.

Magistrates ordered Folan to pay £200 compensation.
