A Crosland Moor man was caught with drugs when police stopped his vehicle.

Mansoor Akhtar, of Blackmoorfoot Road, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug.

He also admitted driving without a licence or insurance.

Kirklees magistrates were told that on May 20 officers stopped Akhtar’s Seat Leon as he drove near to his home.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that they wanted to speak to the 25-year-old in relation to another incident.

He was not arrested over this but the officers could smell cannabis coming from the vehicle.

They located a small quantity of the class B drug in a cigarettes box together with two cannabis grinders.

Further checks revealed that Akhtar held an expired provisional licence and had no insurance.

Magistrates were told that Akhtar had taken his brother’s car to drop some money off.

The cannabis was for his personal use and he had a long association with the drug, the court heard.

Magistrates ordered Akhar to pay a total of £230.

He also was banned from driving for six months.
