A YOUNG Huddersfield woman is enjoying more success as a model.

But Gemma Davy admits: “I don’t want to do this forever”.

The 20-year-old from Kirkburton has been selected to take part in the final of Miss West Yorkshire 2013 in Huddersfield.

However Gemma has no desire to start modelling full time, despite her various successes to date.

The former Huddersfield New College student, who left full time education in 2010, will appear in the final on March 18 at Grapollos in Lockwood, but even if she wins, she doesn’t plan to become a full-time model.

Instead, she’d like to do more fashion design work.

She said: “I have been modelling part time for three years now and I don’t want to do it full time.

“I hope to do more fashion shows and travel and meet some new people.

“I am also doing modelling for my sponsor Limelight Occasions and making my own evening dresses which my sponsor said I can start selling in their shop in the future.”

Gemma entered the competition through the Miss England website and was delighted when she got the news she had been voted through to the final.

Gemma said: “I was excited to be in the final because I have been in finals before and I know how exciting they can be.”

The competition winner will get a professional modelling portfolio, a photo on the cover of a local magazine and entry in to the Miss England semi-finals.

The Miss West Yorkshire final will see Gemma compete with 20 other girls over three rounds. These are an Eco wear round, a sportswear round and an evening dress round.

The finalists also have to raise money for the Beauty With A Purpose charity.

Gemma has entered a number of competitions since leaving college, reaching the final of Top Model UK in 2011 in London.

She has also been involved in Miss Wakefield 2010, London Fashion week ‘A La Mode’ 2011, the Huddersfield Examiner model of the year 2011 and other competitions.

Gemma said: “If you want to get into modelling you have to take your opportunities and this final was one of them.

“I’m just going to see how the final goes and if I don’t win I gain a good experience and get to meet some nice people.”
