Forget the Tour de France - it’s time for the Tour de Dance!

Huddersfield Morris dancers Slubbing Billy’s are planning to launch their own special Yorkshire welcome to the world’s top cyclists, who hit town on July 6.

And they start what they have dubbed Le Clog 8 on Tuesday evening.

Slubbing Billy’s are a clog-shod Morris side, based in Yorkshire - the real ale capital of the world - who like to dance, enjoy a pint of real ale and need new members.

So they thought that they would link these things together, set themselves a challenge, and make sure that real ale and clogs welcome the Tour de France!

Group spokesman Duggs Carre said: “There are eight local breweries in Huddersfield and the Holme Valley, seven of which are within a quarter of a mile of the Tour de France route.

“Slubbing Billy’s plan to dance outside each one to celebrate that fact and warm up the cycle route in the days leading up to the Tour de France.

The Tour de Dance departs tomorrow at the Magic Rock Brewery in Oakes and finishes on Tuesday, July 1, at The Bridge in Holmbridge.

Slubbing Billy’s are a mixed morris side based in the Colne and Holme valleys. Their practice evenings are Tuesdays at 8pm till 10pm at Slaithwaite Community Centre. New members always welcome.
