Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman wants help - to find the town’s best export.

It may be a piece made by an engineering company, a suit length from a textile designer or a new all-action computer game.

The MP wants to showcase it alongside the best exports of other parliamentary constituencies as part of the Exported by Britain Campaign.

Exported by Britain is a campaign jointly run by the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and the All-Party Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group both of which Barry co-chairs.

It follows the success of Made by Britain, which asked MPs to nominate an object or product manufactured in their constituencies. It attracted over 300 nominations including those from the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer. For this campaign Barry submitted an Anti-Counterfeit suit which was a product of the Huddersfield Textile Centre of Excellence.

Mr Sheerman is seeking nominations for Huddersfield’s best export via his Twitter account @barrysheerman. Nominations can also be sent to Barry’s email address: barry.sheerman.mp@parliament.uk

He said: “Huddersfield exports products and services across the world. We export textiles to the finest tailors in Milan, higher education to Africa and Asia, chemicals to farmers everywhere, and nursery care to the Middle East and India.

“Huddersfield is a world leader in these areas and many more besides.

“I want the people of Huddersfield to get in touch with me on Twitter to nominate as many of Huddersfield’s fine exports as possible. We are going to showcase what Huddersfield has to offer so we can attract even more business and investment to our town.”
