HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman expressed his disappointment at the Prime Minister’s failure to respond to the youth unemployment challenges facing Huddersfield and Yorkshire.

Mr Sheerman had called on the Prime Minister in the Commons to do more to create employment opportunities for young people in Huddersfield and across the UK.

But he was unhappy with the response.

He said: “I was pleased that the Prime Minister acknowledged that we are experiencing youth unemployment that is a ‘scourge’ affecting our young people and their futures but he failed to answer my question.

“Are we doing enough to support the next generation and to help them move from school and education into work successfully? The answer is a resounding no.

“It’s not enough to talk about a ‘flexible Labour market’ and ‘attracting businesses to the UK.

“I support Liam Byrne’s position on giving everyone a real chance to work. Other countries do this, so why can’t we?”
