A documentary about life in a Huddersfield town centre bank is set to hit the screens this evening.

The three-part series, The Bank: A Matter of Life and Debt, goes out at 9pm tonight on BBC2.

The show follows the real-life stories of customers and staff at the Market Place branch of NatWest.

Filmed earlier this year, episode one will feature deputy manager Claire Blakey and her team trying to win back customer trust following the 2008 financial crash.

Claire said: "We were really excited to let the cameras into our branch.

"It was strange at first to wake up every morning and realise you are going to be on TV but everybody got used to it very quickly.

"We are very proud that NatWest here in Huddersfield was chosen for the programme and that the film crew is getting a really close look into the everyday lives of our branch and our customers."

Every customer that visits the Huddersfield branch can be called by the bank for feedback, so every member of Claire’s team is under pressure to make their customers happy; from those like Alan, angry about the service they’ve received, to those such as Tracey, seeking advice on managing their debt.

Les Matheson, CEO for Personal and Business Banking, said: "One of the best ways to build trust is to be more open and transparent.

"We’ve made a conscious decision to do that by allowing the BBC to film this ‘behind the scenes’ documentary.

"There’s always an element of risk with this kind of programme but I’m confident it will fairly represent the challenges our frontline teams face every day and the fantastic work they do for our customers.”

The series, made by The Garden Productions, a BAFTA award-winning company which brought viewers 24 Hours in A&E, Inside Claridge’s and Keeping Britain Alive: The NHS In A Day, begins at 9pm on Tuesday, June 23.
