When it comes to fund-raising, the sky is clearly the limit for Huddersfield nurse Sandra Wears.

She proved she had nerves of steel when she travelled at speeds up to 110mph to complete a wing-walk.

Sandra took to the skies to raise almost £1,000 for Parkinson’s UK.

The brave district nurse, who is based in Newsome, even managed to smile for the camera as she was strapped to the top wing of an authentic vintage Boeing Stearman biplane near Selby.

Her terrifying challenge was just one of the events Sandra has taken part in this year to raise money for good causes.

She completed a 5k run for the NSPCC in July and then put on her running shoes again in early October for the Kirkwood Hospice Colour Rush, alongside her daughter Abi Wears.

The pair also completed a 5k obstacle rush in September for Cancer Research UK and Breast Cancer Care.

Sandra, who works for Locala Community Partnerships, said: “I’ve done a skydive and always wanted to try wing-walking so I couldn’t resist this opportunity.

“I’m now starting on plans for next year when I’m aiming to do one challenge per month.”

Abi also works at Locala as an end-of-life care support officer.
