A group of young singers have stepped in - to save Christmas at Huddersfield Parish Church.

They have formed a new youth choir called Treble Talents and will take a lead role in the church’s traditional service of lessons and carols.

It is good news because the normal church choir is depleted, as many of its members are University of Huddersfield students who go home for Christmas.

The Rev Simon Crook, a curate at St Peter’s Church, welcomed the move.

He said: “Every year at Huddersfield Parish Church we have a traditional Christmas service of Lessons and Carols, and every year our usually busy choir is somewhat low on numbers as many of the members are university students who return to families for Christmas.

“But this year, a new youth choir, “Treble Talents” will be stepping in to the breach and providing the soprano line.

“They are a new choir formed only this year by Caius Lee, who is currently organ scholar of Bradford Cathedral and a student at Greenhead College.

“Having heard them practise, for such a new choir they make a very mature sound, with talented individual young singers blending together to beautiful effect.

“I am very much looking forward to hearing them perform together with some of our own choir at our Carol Service on Sunday.

“With both choirs singing in harmony we can expect some of the very best spine-tingling Christmas music adding meaning and mystery to our worship.”

The traditional Christmas service of Lessons and Carols is at Huddersfield Parish Church on December 20 at 3pm.
