THEY gave their lives for their country.

And tomorrow, hundreds of people are expected to honour them in their home town.

Troops from Corunna Company, 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment will parade through the town before attending a special homecoming service for the troops.

A massive turnout is expected with many eager to pay tribute to the four young Huddersfield soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment who have lost their lives in Afghanistan this year.

Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, of New Mill, Private Anton Frampton, 20, of Longwood, and Private Daniel Wilford, 21, of Cowlersley, all died in the same incident in March, which also claimed the lives of three other soldiers.

Their Warrior armoured vehicle was caught in a blast from an improvised explosive device in Helmand.

Private Tom Wroe, 18, of Meltham, was killed in a later incident. He was working with a colleague, Sgt Gareth Thursby, 29, when they were shot by a rogue Afghan policeman in a so-called “green on blue” attack.

Around 170 soldiers including a 30-strong band will march through the town tomorrow lunchtime.

Corunna Company, which included Cpl Hartley and Ptes Frampton and Wilford in its number, returned home some weeks ago to their base in Warminster, Wiltshire.

The remainder of the Yorkshire Regiment, still out in Afghanistan, are due to return home within days.

Tomorrow’s event will include a parade and inspection in New Street, before continuing to the private service at Huddersfield Parish Church.

The service, while concentrating on the homecoming, will remember the local soldiers who have died during the Afghanistan conflict, and their families have been invited.

Some roads in the town centre will be closed to allow the parade to take place, and many people are expected to turn up to welcome the troops home.

The parade will form up in Beck Road, before marching into the centre at 12.15pm.

There will be a short speech and inspection (at approximately 12.30) at the Market Place end of New Street, before the parade continues on a lap of the town centre before finishing in Byram Street at around 1.05pm.

The full route is:

From Beck Road, on to St John’s Road, John William Street, New Street for inspection and short speeches, Cloth Hall Street, Market Street, Westgate, New Street (for salute), High Street, Market Street, Westgate, Kirkgate, Byram Street.

Roads inside the ring road will be closed for the parade.
