THE town will be rooting for X Factor stars Jordan Higo and Ashford Campbell as they take to the stage for their first live show tonight.

The Huddersfield teens, part of popular boyband Nu Vibe, have been busy preparing for their performance in front of a studio audience ... and millions of TV viewers.

And as they are busy perfecting their harmonies, their proud family members told us how they are keeping their fingers crossed for the band.

Jordan’s mum Susan Higo, a senior nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, will be in the London studio cheering on her 16-year-old son.

And they’re hoping the band don’t fall at the first hurdle – a twist could see four of the acts booted out by the judges this weekend.

“It’s nerve-racking,” Susan said. “It gives me butterflies just thinking about it.

“I think the lads are nervous, but looking forward to it.

“They want something to start happening now because they’ve been in the house for quite a few weeks.”

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for the pair, who are joined in their group by Bradley Johnson and Richard Jeynes-Milford, both 16, and 19-year-old Stefan Romer.

Last weekend viewers saw them wow groups mentor Tulisa Contostavlos with their original performance of Tinie Tempah’s Written In The Stars.

Putting them through to the live shows with three other groups the N Dubz singer told them: “From just being put together I think you guys have done really, really well.

“You’ve found your strong points. You’ve all got individual personalities.”

Since then the lads have been spending long hours at singing, choreography and rehearsing in the studio.

When they have not been working hard, they have been enjoying living in the lap of luxury at their £6m Herts mansion with the other 15 finalists.

Susan, of Crosland Moor, said: “The house is out of this world – all the group are in one room together.

“It’s the longest Jordan’s been away from home, and I think he’s missing his friends but he’s really enjoying it.

“He’s been doing things he never thought he would do.

“He hasn’t got a girlfriend and I think he’s quite enjoying the attention. The group are happy with this because it’s usually the solo artists that get most of the coverage.”

The slick-looking group have already received a lot of attention from fans and the media. But reports this week in national newspapers of the group falling out and having to call their mums to the house have been dismissed by them as nonsense.

Susan said: “Jordan asked if I’d seen the papers that says they’ve all been falling out and crying.

“It’s a load of rubbish. They’re getting on really well and have only had a couple of days away from each other.

“They’re working really well as a team and the singing is shared so no individual is shining.

“And all of the mums of the 16-year-olds had to go and be with them at the house because they were signing contracts!”

Both Jordan and 19-year-old Ashford, of Lowerhouses, returned to the town together last weekend to see family and friends.

Ashford, a languages student, watched the ITV show with relatives at the family home.

And Jordan, a member of the Giants scholarship team, visited his teammates at the Galpharm.

Susan said: “It was nice for them to come home and have a bit of normality.

“I don’t think any of us expected that it would come to this – I always assumed Jordan would be a rugby player.

“He’s got a song next week he’s really happy with so fingers crossed they get through. We’ll be going down every weekend to watch the show.”

Ashford’s brother, Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell, also spoke of his hopes of Nu Vibe becoming the first group to be crowned winners in the show’s history.

The 23-year-old said: “The group is great. From their first performance at boot camp they’ve done really well and they’re gelling as a group now.

“Ashford said he’s just enjoying being part of the group and part of the show because he’s doing what he loves doing.

“I think they’ve got a chance. They’ve made it to the live shows. I’d love him to break the trend and be in the first group to win the show.”
