FIVE Huddersfield pubs feature in a book dedicated to heritage ale houses and their historic interiors.

Yorkshire’s Real Heritage Pubs, published by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) includes histories of The Albert in Victoria Lane, The Sportsman, in St John’s Road, the Shoulder of Mutton at Lockwood, The Victoria in Newsome, and the Beaumont Arms, Kirkheaton.

Also in the book of the county’s most historic taverns are the Old Ship, Brighouse, the Bath and Central Station Hotel, both Dewsbury, and the Black Bull, Birstall.

The book charts the rise of the Yorkshire pub and its decline over the last few years.

Historic taverns which have been altered unsympathetically – including a number of Huddersfield pubs – are named and shamed.
