Police shut a stretch of Huddersfield’s ring road today after a woman was knocked down.

She suffered head injuries and also a possible fractured pelvis in a collision with a taxi.

The accident happened just after 12pm on the Queensgate stretch of the ring road near to the New Street junction.

The woman was treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where she was further transferred to the Leeds General Infirmary.

A police spokesman said: “The woman has suffered facial injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

“She was given treatment at the scene but is now detained in hospital.”

Police officers took photographs and measurements at the scene as part of an inquiry.

Traffic was diverted down Chapel Hill until the road reopened at 3.30pm
