HUDDERSFIELD Road in Ravensthorpe was closed for more than four hours after a car smash that left one man badly injured.

At around 9.45am, a Honda Civic Type R and Ford KA crashed on the road outside Dewsbury Fire Station.

Watch Commander Richard Carr said: “There were two casualties in the Honda but we were able to release them through the doors.

“Although they were both able to walk around we fitted one person from the car with a neck collar.

“They were checked on site by the ambulance and were taken to hospital for a check-up.

“There was one male casualty in the KA and we believe he had suffered a broken leg.

“We had to cut the roof-off in order to extricate him from the vehicle.

“This took around 15 minutes. He was taken to hospital.”

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance came to the accident and landed at the fire station, although it wasn’t required.

Three pumps from Dewsbury were at the scene for around an hour and were assisted by one crew from Mirfield.

According to a police spokesman, the road was not re-opened until 2pm when both cars were “recovered”.

A diversion was set-up through Dewsbury.

There was believed to be extensive damage to the side of the Ford KA.

Investigations in to the accident are ongoing.
