A second man has appeared at Leeds Crown Court accused of conspiracy to murder following a shooting in Huddersfield last month.

Sheraz Hussain, 29, of Clara Street, Birkby, appeared over a video link from HMP Leeds and was remanded in custody.

He is accused of conspiring to murder Arfan Mehmood who was blasted in the head as he sat in a car on Springwood Avenue, Springwood on March 11.

Sheraz Hussain’s brother Hamed, 24, also of Clara Street, has already appeared before the same court on the same charge when a provisional timetable for the case was set.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told Hussain yesterday: “At the minute your trial is listed for August 11 and you will be brought to court for a plea and case management on June 9. By that date there must be a defence case statement signed by you.”

The court heard a future bail application may be made on Sheraz Hussain’s behalf.

Mr Mehmood is still in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary.
