The man shot in the head almost a week ago in Huddersfield remains in critical condition in hospital.

The 31-year-old man, named as Arfan Mehmood in a court hearing relating to the incident, was rushed to hospital following the attack in Springwood last Tuesday evening.

He underwent head and shoulder surgery and remains under armed guard in his hospital bed almost a week after the attack.

The Examiner can reveal that the shot fired at Mr Mehmood was done so while the window of the white Audi A3 he was seated in was still up - with the glass taking some of the impact of the shotgun blast and dissipating some of its force.

After Mr Mehmood was shot two people, aged 31 and 24, were arrested and questioned. The 31-year-old was later released.

Later in the week two women were also arrested in Birkby on suspicion of assisting an offender. They were later released on bail.

Police revealed yesterday that armed officers deployed in Huddersfield on Sunday were hunting with another person in connection with the shooting.

Armed officers were sent to an address on Larch Road, Paddock, at 2.55pm following intelligence that a suspect was at a property.

A man was later arrested but on suspicion of offences unconnected to the gun attack.

The 24-year-old arrested last week has appeared in court charged with conspiracy to murder.
