A soldier asked for his court case to be adjourned as he is currently serving abroad.

Kyle Thompson, of Coniston Avenue in Dalton, was due at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He faces a charge of being drunk and disorderly in public.

The alleged incident happened in King Street in Huddersfield town centre on December 27.

Thompson, 27, was not present to answer the charge against him.

Magistrates were told that he had sent an email to the court explaining his absence.

Thompson said that he was a soldier serving with the Yorkshire Regiment in Cyprus.

He said that he will not be returning to the UK until March when his role will be completed.

Magistrates agreed to adjourn his case until March 24.

Unconditional bail was granted in his absence.
