CENTENARIAN Ivy Clegg will toast her 100th birthday today with her favourite tipple – a cup of tea.

The lifelong Huddersfield resident has never smoked or drunk alcohol, instead favouring a hot cuppa.

The mother-of-one son has spent the majority of her life as a stay-at-home mum.

Following the death of her husband, Clifford, more than 40 years ago she began to look after her father, Arthur Leonard, who also lived to almost 100.

Despite reaching the landmark birthday, Ivy has never been abroad.

Daughter-in-law Belinda Clegg said: “We’ve tried everything but she won’t fly or go on a boat.

“Her brother’s family moved to South Africa and their children went to Canada but she’s never visited them.

“But she’s been a great letter writer to people all over the world.”

Ivy said she was overwhelmed to be 100-years-old.

She said: “I’m enjoying every moment and being the centre of attention.”

Ivy, who has one grandson, will be enjoying a party with more than 50 friends and family at Pennine Manor.

And on Tuesday her friends from WRVS will join in the celebrations at a special event at Huddersfield Town Hall.
