A MAD Huddersfield Town fan turned Viking hopes to pillage the £1,000 prize when he appears on TV’s Come Dine With Me.

But Marsden-born Carl Longson, 49, fears he could be branded ‘Britain’s nastiest man’ because of his barrage of jibes at the other contestants.

Carl, who follows Town home and away, has already filmed his Viking-themed dinner party.

He can’t give away what happened but producers reckon Carl could be TV’s next ‘Mr Nasty’ when the show airs.

“I came across as being a typical bigoted Yorkshireman,” said dad-of-four Carl.

“I couldn’t help it. That’s what I’m like.”

Carl was up against three rivals including 23-year-old former model turned opera singer Charlotte Pearson.

When she tuned up, Carl just burst into cruel fits of laughter.

He also made some cutting remarks about a ‘fat lady singing’ which went down like a lead balloon.

The other contestants were Ingrid Wagner, “a 50-something women’s rights activist” and Richard Turnbull, a 28-year-old “cheeky chappie” car salesman. Both also provided fodder for Carl’s insults and put-downs.

On the show four contestants go head-to-head, each hosting a dinner party, before voting for the best.

Carl, a project manager with a phone company, hosted his Viking feast on the last night – and turned from Mr Nasty into Mr Nice.

“I was absolutely horrendous and ruined everyone’s dinner party,” said Carl.

“But on the last night I was the perfect host and everything went brilliantly.”

Carl was previously in the national media spotlight in 2001 when he was dubbed ‘Britain’s unluckiest man’.

He lost his wife, his job, his home and his car and then had Town’s crest tattooed on his leg – two days before the club changed it.

Carl was encouraged to enter Come Dine With Me by second wife Emma, 39.

He dressed up as a Viking warrior and hosted his Jorvik-themed feast in the Scandinavian barbecue cabin at his Stafford home.

The cabin, which seats 15 people, has a barbecue at its heart and was trimmed with reindeer skins.

But it was the menu which proved a show-stopper.

His starter was Fish Freyja, named after a Viking goddess.

This was smoked salmon fillet rolled in mustard and French onions and served on pastry longboats.

The main course was Valhalla’s Delight which consisted of smoked lamb shanks served with honey-roasted root vegetables and the sweet was Pillager’s Pudding, a plain sponge pudding filled with clotted cream and summer berries simmered with brandy and sugar and set alight to resemble an Icelandic volcano.

Carl did all his cooking in a Town shirt and had to request one from the club without the sponsor’s logo on the front as the TV company couldn’t show brand names.

Carl also wanted to serve leeks and sing: “We all ate leeks, we all ate leeks” to the tune of the Town anthem: “We all hate Leeds.” The producers weren’t amused.

Carl had no regrets about his bad behaviour and denied it was an act.

“I’m like that,” he said. “Me being nice on the last night was me acting and being false.

“I’ve heard back from the producer and he says I was the most controversial bloke they’ve ever had on the show – but funny with it.

“I’m sure he’s right!”

No date has been fixed for the show to be screened.
