Huddersfield Town fans have flown more than 6,000 miles to back England’s bid for World Cup glory.

And after a miserable night in the Amazonian jungle which saw defeat to Italy, the three supporters are planning a flight to Sao Paulo today to get ready for the next match.

The three supporters - Sean Boswell, Daz Sykes and Denis Hall - are all regulars at The Vulcan in St Peter’s Street, which is their watering hole of choice before Huddersfield Town games at the John Smith’s Stadium.

But they swapped that at the weekend for the Restaurante Nossa Casa in Manaus, in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest.

They posed for photos with other England fans who had flown into the jungle for the Saturday night game against Italy, which was played at the futuristic Arena de Amazonio and ended in a 2-1 defeat for Hodgson’s men.

Fellow Town fan Paul Roebuck, back at home in The Vulcan, said: “They flew out last Tuesday and plan to be there until after the knockout stages.

“They had a flag specially commissioned, with Huddersfield Town and The Vulcan on it, but almost missed it as it didn’t arrive until the very last minute.

“They have been planning the trip for ages and I know they plan to fly down to Sao Paulo for the Uruguay game on Thursday.

“They are all in their 40s and keen fans of both Town and England.

“They have followed England for years and have tickets for all the World Cup matches the team are playing.

“Daz rang me yesterday afternoon with a brief chat about the game.“He said it was sweltering in the stadium, with such high humidity, and he and the others were sweating, and they don’t know how the players coped.“But the beers were only £1 a pint so they managed to get through it!””

Other photos posted by the fans on the Vulcan’s Facebook page show the flag being hoisted on the famous Copacabana beach - and an image of it supposedly attached to the front of the towering Christ the Redeemer statue high above Rio.
