Two Huddersfield Town fans are doubling up their support for their club.

Phil Hargreaves and Ollie Knockton will take this year’s Pedal for Pounds challenge one step further by cycling to the start line, as well as cycling back home with Town fans.

The duo, veterans of Huddersfield Town’s Keep It Up fundraiser, will cycle to the Emirates Stadium before joining fans for the 250 mile return trip home.

All the while they’ll be raising funds for the Keep It Up campaign which supports Huddersfield Town’s Academy and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Phil, 27, an IT analyist from Slaithwaite and Ollie, 24, a supermarket worker from Outlane, are busy training for the challenge.

Phil said: “Supporting this charity alongside Huddersfield Town makes you proud to be part of a club that cares.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance relies on charity to keep it up in the air at a cost of £9,990 per day.

“We have met people that have relied on the Air Ambulance and also heard stories from the staff at YAA and without a second’s thought me and Ollie had to get involved to help continue saving lives.”

On day one the duo will cycle 101 miles to Leicester and 108 miles more on day two to the Emirates Stadium, where they will meet up with the other Pedal for Pounds cyclists in the fifth bike ride organised by Town.

They’ll cycle 250 miles back home with fellow fans, Chairman Dean Hoyle, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis and Club Ambassador Andy Booth, arriving back before Town kick off against Leicester City on April 26.

Town fans for life, they met when they were grouped together during last year’s Pedal for Pounds challenge and have continued to cycle together since.

With eight weeks to go they are training every weekend and have battled wind and rain of recent weeks to get match fit.

The route, dubbed the Chapman Trail, was inspired by Herbert Chapman who managed Huddersfield Town between 1921 and 1925, winning an FA Cup and two First Division titles in the space of four years. In 1925, Arsenal tempted Chapman to join them.

The Club’s previous four bike rides have added over £600,000 to the £980,000 raised for the Keep It Up campaign so far since its inception in 2009 and they’re hoping to top £1m this time.
