THEY have pedalled and walked for miles.

Now Huddersfield Town fans are lacing up their running shoes in their latest big charity effort.

More than 200 people are expected to line-up on Sunday morning for the inaugural Run For Pounds.

They will leave the Galpharm Stadium to take on the challenge of a 10k (six miles) run around Huddersfield – with the aim of raising up to £20,000.

The event is part of the club’s huge Keep It Up campaign and the proceeds will be divided between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Town Academy.

The run follows the walk to the Bury game two weeks ago and comes ahead of the third Pedal For Pounds Challenge, on May 2.

That’s when 300 cyclists set off from Yeovil to ride back to Huddersfield in time for the final match of the season.

In all, the club hopes the events will take the total raised for the Keep It Up campaign to then £500,000 mark.

Run organiser, Mark Davies, said: “The focus again on Sunday is on fun.

“We do have people from several running clubs but it’s certainly not a warm-up for the Kenyan athletes for the Olympic Games!

“I’m a gentle jogger and I did the run in 53 minutes. Sunday’s runners range in age from 15 to people in their 60s and we hope they all have a great time”.

Other runners can register at the Stadium between 8am and 8.30am on Sunday, with the run starting at 9am.

The route takes them along Gasworks Street, Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Bradford Road, Bradley Road and Leeds Road, back to the Galpharm.

The roads will be closed at various times on Sunday from 8.45am to 10.30am and stewards and police will be out to direct traffic.

Club officials hope the run will become a successful annual event.

Mr Davies said: “Everyone knows these events are for a good cause.

“The runners will include the lads from the Club’s Under 18 Academy, who are doing their bit to help thank those who have raised money.”
