THERE will be a minute’s silence before kick-off at Huddersfield Town’s match with Rochdale at the Galpharm Stadium.

The silence will be in memory of fallen 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment soldiers Cpl Jake Hartley, 20, Pte Daniel Wilford, 21, Pte Anthony Frampton, 20, Pte Christopher Kershaw, 19, Pte Daniel Wade, 20, and Sgt Nigel Coupe, 33 who were killed when their armoured vehicle was blown up by an improvised explosice device (IED) in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Cpl Hartley was from Earlsheaton, Pte Wilford from Cowlersley and Pte Frampton from Longwood.

Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle said: "This is really tragic and my heart sank when I heard yesterday. It is only right that Huddersfield Town pays tribute to all six brave soldiers who gave their lives serving our country and it is particularly poignant given that three come from our local community.

"Many of our supporters have themselves served in our armed forces and in this regiment, 'The Dukes', or have family and friends who do. We have been inundated with correspondence from our fans that would support this minute's silence to show their respect.

"Our supporters and our community come together in tragic times such as this and on Saturday we will all do our part and show our respect.

"The deepest condolences of everyone connected with Huddersfield Town are with the family, friends and colleagues of the soldiers at this time."
