THE bragging rights in today’s big soccer derby will be felt across West Yorkshire.

Thousands will be at the John Smith’s Stadium to see Huddersfield Town take on deadly rivals Leeds United.

But there will also be keen interest across the Atlantic – and certainly in the Beattie household in Buffalo, New York.

Husband and wife Keith and Bev Beattie are very happily married – except when it comes to football.

Keith is a dyed in the wool Leeds fan while Bev, sensibly, is a supporter of the Terriers.

And they have quite literally taken their rivalry to the streets – with the cars bearing rival number plates.

Bev, who was born and brought up in Huddersfield, said: “The number plates are on my car and my husband’s car.

“The Chevy which has the Huddersfield plate is my car and my husband’s Ford has the Leeds plate.

“I was born and lived most of my life in Huddersfield up until 1999 when I moved to Buffalo, New York, for my husband’s job.

“Keith was born in Durham but was brought up in Mirfield which is where his parents still live. I guess that’s how he became a Leeds fan.

“Our three children Damian, Laura and Luke are also from Huddersfield so it’s four to one.

“We have a little competition between us. The Ford has a 3D magnetic football on the back which he got to keep on Tuesday as Town lost and Leeds won.

“When Huddersfield win and Leeds lose their games, I get the football.

“Hopefully today’s the day when the football goes on the Chevy, and I am so looking forward to filming him putting that ball on my car”.
