Tony Iredale Travel has been bought by United Co-op Travel Group for an undisclosed sum.
Tony Iredale Travel has its head office at Cross Church Street in the town centre, as well as branches at Marsh, Holmfirth and Brighouse.
The award-winning business has an annual turnover of £12m.
The 60-strong staff at Tony Iredale Travel have transferred to United Co-op Travel.
Tony Iredale, who started the business 19 years ago, will remain with it during the changeover period.
Alistair Rowland, general manager for UTC's retail distribution division, said Tony Iredale Travel fitted well with its existing branch network.
He added: "Tony Iredale Travel is a well- respected and highly productive operation, with an excellent reputation and committed staff.
"Huddersfield provides an ideal location for us to offer an excellent service to customers and to make a significant contribution to the group's developing profitability," said Mr Rowland.
This year Tony Iredale Travel was named Travel Agent of the Year for Yorkshire and the North-East for the fourth year running.
The company has departments specialising in business travel and flight-only deals.
It also runs discount holiday clubs for companies UK-wide.
It opened its Cross Church Street head office in July, 2002, after moving from John William Street.
United Co-op Travel is part of Rochdale-based United Co-op, the UK's largest independent co-operative society.
It has 93 travel shops across Yorkshire, the North-West, Cumbria and Staffordshire.
The group had a turnover of £496m last year.
Its divisions include ones covering business travel and cruises.
