BUDDING computer game designers have been showcasing their talents in a bid to get hired.

Students from across Yorkshire descended on Huddersfield University to battle for cash prizes and work placements.

The Game Republic Showcase, a conference organised by Screen Yorkshire, a government funded agency, was attended by some of the top computer game companies, including Rockstar, Team17, Sumo Digital and Just Add Water.

The day of events featured computer games designed by more than 75 students from the University of Huddersfield, University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, Leeds Metropolitan University and Bradford University.

Last year five students from Huddersfield University were given a work placement at Leeds-based Rockstar games, the studio behind the hit Grand Theft Auto series.
