A UNIVERSITY academic has become one of the first fellows of one of Britain’s most influential healthcare advisory bodies.
Pharmacist Dr Mahendra Patel, of Huddersfield University, has been appointed as a key adviser to Nice (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) which provides national guidance on good healthcare practice.
Dr Mahendra Patel combines his high- profile NHS work with his role as a senior lecturer and honorary research fellow at the university.
He is currently on the NHS Evidence Advisory Committee and works with the NHS Evidence Medicine Information Reference Group to help provide quality health information.
Dr Patel, from Wakefield, said: “I was both delighted and surprised to be accepted, surprised because the application process was very rigorous, even quite searching; as I would expect this to be an area mostly occupied by medical practitioners. It’s a real honour.”
