Engineering graduates are revving up for success at an international university motor sport contest.

Team Hare, from the University of Huddersfield, will be testing its engineering and driving skills to the limit at Silverstone grand prix circuit, on July 10.

The team will be taking on racing teams from across the UK and Europe in the Formula Student 2015 races.

As well as time trials, the competition organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, includes design contests.

The team is hoping to continue Huddersfield’s success; the university fielded the UK top overall British team in 2013.

And this year’s car – built for £100,000 thanks to grants from the university and sponsors – might have what it takes.

The motor can reach 60mph in approximately four seconds, despite its 510cc motorcycle engine.

Before the race day, the team will be putting the car through its paces at Blyton Park circuit, Lincolnshire.

Team member Nathan Cornes said: “It’s 60hp but it’s very light, so there’s a high power to weight ratio.

“It’s very nippy and designed for tight circuits.”

Nathan added: “I don’t think there’s any prizes but you get bragging rights and something amazing to put on your CV.”
