HUDDERSFIELD was hit by another cold blast last night.
Temperatures across the town dipped well below freezing after a day in which many areas felt the cold.
But there is some relief on the way, with milder and wetter weather expected tomorrow and over the weekend.
Huddersfield weather expert Paul Stevens recorded temperatures of minus 5.8deg Celsius in some areas of the town on Tuesday night, with others struggling at minus 3 or 4 degrees.
He said: “Up on the hills we had temperatures of minus 3.8deg, but in low lying areas like Waterloo and Leeds Road, it was nearer minus 6 because the cold air sinks and never got the chance to lift.
“Throughout yesterday, despite it being a bright day, some areas struggled to get above freezing.
“Last night was due to be the same with some bitter temperatures, but we then see a change today and into Friday.
“The weather will turn a lot milder but it will also be wet and windy, and that looks to be the picture for the next few days.”
Across the UK, it was a similar picture.
The coldest spot in the UK early yesterday was Tulloch Bridge in the Highlands, where the thermometer could only creep up to minus 10.2C (13F).
Other overnight cold spots included Chesham in Buckinghamshire at minus 9C (16F) and Little Rissington in Gloucestershire where it was minus 8C (18F).
Freezing fog was also a problem in some areas and that disrupted airports, especially in the south.
