A Huddersfield widow will open a pop-up shop this week in support of charities that supported her late husband.

Mary Robertson, of Gledholt, will host the stall at the Pack Horse Centre in aid of Blind Veterans and other charities which helped her family cope with the difficulties faced by her military veteran husband Andrew, who sadly died in November this year.

As an ex-serviceman who was vision-impaired, Andrew received support from Blind Veterans UK for the last seven years.

Funds raised will also be shared with Alzheimer’s Research UK, Carers Trust (formerly Cross Roads), and Alwoodleigh, the home that Andrew was cared for in towards the end of his life.

Mary said: “Andrew and I received such amazing support from these charities.

“I know that every pound raised will do so much good for so many people.

“I had the idea for this pop-up shop many months ago but it’s now even more significant that it is in Andrew’s memory.

“I hope people will be able to come down to the Pack Horse to get ready for Christmas by getting some lovely presents as well as supporting these fantastic charities.”

Mary will also be supporting Blind Veterans UK by donating Andrew’s extensive library of more than 100 talking books to the charity for others to enjoy.

The temporary shop will feature unique handmade gifts including cards, knitted coats, and capes made following patterns designed by Mary herself.

It will be open from 10am – 4pm in the Pack Horse Shopping Centre on Friday and Saturday.
