A woman stole from retail park stores to fund her drug addiction.

Kate Longshaw, of Edgerton Guest House in New North Road, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

She admitted thefts from B&M Stores and Matalan, both on the Ringway Centre at Beck Road.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman said the offences were on October 24. Longshaw, 28, entered B&M first and left with two bags of shopping without paying for them.

She then made her way to Matalan and stole more goods .

Longshaw was arrested and in interview claimed she would have sold the items to find her drug habit. All of the goods, worth almost £80, were returned to the shops

Mr Bozman said: “She said she had a crack cocaine and heroin habit and would spend between £30 and £50 a day on drugs.”

Magistrates heard Longshaw was last in court in December 2011 for drug-related offences.

However, she received a police caution in August for shoplifting.

Ian Whiteley, mitigating, said: “She has had long-standing drug issues since she was a teenager and wants to resolve this.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until November 27 so that Longshaw can be considered for drug treatment.

In the meantime she has to comply with the Drugs Intervention Programme and must not enter any shop on the retail park.
