The undead are set to walk again in a Huddersfield park.

Beaumont Park will host the State of Decay challenge on Sunday, May 10.

And runners aiming to complete the 5km course through the historic park will have to do so confronted by an army of zombies, determined to infect them.

It’s the idea of Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table who are are hosting the zombie run after the success of last year’s event.

Andrew Sparks, one of the organisers, said: “It’s the same format as last year, with a 5k run primarily in aid of the Huddersfield-based Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

“Participants will be hassled by a team of undead volunteers with varying abilities and there are prizes up for grabs for those who survive the ordeal.

“It was a pretty roaring success last year with a lot of locals getting into the spirit of things with costumes, inflatable weapons and a lot of enthusiasm.

“We are looking for runners to register and we’re also recruiting zombie volunteers so if anybody fancies an excuse to get dressed up and chase folk around the park for a good cause, we’d be glad to have them on board.

“They can get in touch at huddersfieldstateofdecay@gmail.com which is also listed on the site”.

The course takes in contrasting terrain including sharp inclines, wooded areas, looming cliffs, bridges, tunnels, water features, open parkland, disused railway track and a dismantled Victorian Railway station.

It begins with a downhill run into Dungeon Wood, an atmospheric area with many deviations from the main pathway and rocky recesses and wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding area and Castle Hill.

Each competitor has three tags secured to their back with Velcro. Zombies work independently or strategically in teams to acquire these tags from each runner.
