The crack of the batter, the cruch of the chips, the sloosh of the mushy peas - we all love a chippy!

In this area we're blessed some fantastic places to pick up a 'proper' chippy meal - whether that be to eat from the tray as you walk down the street or to tip out onto a plate when we get home.

We asked our people on our Facebook page for some of their favourites - and you can see below some of their recommendations.

Great chippy in Sycamore Avenue Golcar. He cooks to order but you don't wait long, we moved to Golcar from Cambridge 13 years ago and boy we found out what a good fish n chips are..

Ive had a few chippys over the years, and being in Golcar I would have thought that I had enough to choose from. I used to go to Tony's at top of Deighton on a Saturday after taking my boy to footy training. Once or twice I went over to Slawit and tried the two in the village. then I heard Hill Top had new owners so I thought why not give it a try, it's been a while. Woweeeee! I will never go anywhere else. Its fresh golden batter is to die for. The shop is spotlessly clean and they offer so much more choice than other chippys. So my choice is Hill Top Village Fisheries without a doubt!

West Street chippy in Lindley. Wonderful crispy batter and always sweet juicy fish.

John Farrell

Tony's at Sheepridge, proper chippy with man sized portions.

Laurie Beckett

Bungalow fisheries, New Hey Road. Gorgeous grub and a friendly welcome every time.

Michael Pearson

Leymoor Fisheries, Sycamore Ave, Golcar. Cooked to order in beef dripping and perfect every time.

If I didn't say Hollowgate chippy in Holmfirth my husband would never forgive me. Though to me, the best chips actually come from Coe's in Leeds where I hail from

Gary Hills

I think the Batter Sea Fish Bar offers the best chippy, what's more for vegetarians you can guarantee the chips are not cooked in the oil of meat items. Which is a big plus for veggies like me as many chips shops do not do this. The chips are tasty and not soaked in oil and the menu is good. What more can you ask...

Hill Top Village Fisheries mega fish, A whale in a box!

Paul Baillie

Harry Heywoods every time. Twice cooked in beef drip! Nom nom nom

Although I live over the dark side now in Lancashire, I still look forward to my pre Town match meal at Inghams Plaice on Leeds Road. Great food and great staff too.
