NEW digital x-ray equipment has been put in place at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has spent £310,000 installing the new kit to improve the quality of x-ray images and speed up the process.

The new digital system allows images to appear on the screen immediately and a wireless detector can be used anywhere on the body.

The x-ray department has also been given a facelift with a newly refurbished waiting area and changing facilities for patients. Radiographer Shanaz Khan said: “The new kit has made big changes to the quality of x-rays. It is a big step forward for the trust. It has made the process quicker and more efficient for patients.”

HRI’s vascular intervention room has also been boosted by the investment of £500,000 on new equipment and a £250,000 upgrade to the room.

The makeover means procedures which normally need to be carried out in a theatre can now take place in the room.

Radiology manager Mark Rodgers said: “It is important the trust keeps up to date with technology so we can offer patients the best treatment options possible.”

Further investment in radiology equipment is expected later this year.
