A PLAN to bring massive investment to the North has been welcomed.
England's three northern regional development agencies have welcomed the Government's plans to boost economic development - including job creation - between the coasts of the Irish Sea and the North Sea.
The area has 15m people, five main cities, leading universities, expanding airports and national parks.
The move could see the real potential of the area compete more effectively with other parts of Europe.
New investment could boost transport links, housing, schools and hospitals across the North, helping to balance investment being made in the South-East.
The three agencies - Yorkshire Forward, the North-West Development Agency and One Northeast - will work together.
They will identify how the scheme will work and how any barriers to its effectiveness should be dealt with.
The three already unite to promote the North to potential inward investors. This move is seen as a logical next step.
