Human remains have been found on land in Kirklees.

The investigation is at an early stage but detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Crime Division – which deals with serious crimes such as murders and rapes – is in charge of it at the moment.

Officers were called to Scholes Lane in Scholes, Cleckheaton, yesterday afternoon following a report of a body being found on land near the road.

A police spokeswoman said: “At about 1.50pm yesterday, police received a report of possible human remains being found on land off Scholes Lane, Scholes.

“Officers attended the scene and have confirmed that the remains are those of a human.

“These will be the subject of further tests.

“It is too early to confirm whether there are any suspicious circumstances. Inquiries are continuing.”
