Hundreds of people turned out on Saturday in the sunshine and the rain as Lindley Carnival put on a show to make the village proud.

At Fern Lea Recreation Ground in the village, there were 33 stalls, bouncy castle and musical entertainment came from Lindley Junior School’s award-winning choir as well as its sister school, Lindley Infants, all marshalled by Alison North, the junior school’s musical director.

Kirklees councillor Cahal Burke, (Lib Dem, Lindley) said a huge amount of planning and preparation went into the event which is now in its ninth year.

The event also featured scouts, the Royal Air Force, Lindley Library, local churches, Kirklees Youth Bus and a fire engine.

Millie McKean and Kelsey Hinchliffe from Rubies hairdressing.

Alison said: “We are celebrating musical talent in Lindley and Armed Forces Day which is a chance for people to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

“It is a proper community event.”

The day was organised by Lindley Community Group with sponsorship from Bar 10, Inspirations and structural engineers Marsh Design.

The fun actually began a day earlier on Friday night with a street party on Lidget Street. Cahal added: “It went really well, there was a nice family atmosphere and we celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday.”

Families arriving at the street party.

And the carnival spirit spilled over into Sunday with the Lindley 10K and a 2km fun run.
