IT was "Insania" in Huddersfield as celebrity Peter Andre hit the town.

Hundreds queued for a glimpse of the singer as he arrived to open the new HMV store in the Kingsgate shopping centre.

There were screams and tears as he cut the ribbon yesterday and signed autographs and copies of his new single.

But there was no sign of Peter's girlfriend Katie Price (Jordan) who is busy with filming for ITV's reality show Hell's Kitchen.

HMV said it was a real coup to get 31-year-old Andre to open the new store.

His long-awaited Insania single was launched at the end of May and his new album The Long Road Back will be released on Monday .

The 5,000sq ft HMV outlet, near Beatties department store, will stock thousands of CDs, DVDs and videos.

PETER Andre is a man on a mission.

The pint-sized star has an infectious zest for life and success.

And just a week before starting his latest summer tour on June 15 he revealed an inner drive for his second bout of fame.

" I want to do everything it takes to succeed. I just hope it lasts," he said.

Peter, 31, was nevertheless amazed at the unbelievable, warm welcome which he received in Huddersfield.

"The people are extra friendly here. I remember visiting Huddersfield several years ago. My only slight disappointment is not to have had any Yorkshire pudding yet. I love it."

It is unlikely that the traditional Yorkshire dish will be on the menu when Peter visits Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen tonight, but he was hoping for a succulent steak "cooked properly" for dinner.

"I love cooking. French and Italian food are my favourite. I should enjoy more Greek food with my family background, but I enjoy cooking French and Italian dishes the best."

While on the Hell's Kitchen TV set, Peter will meet up with girlfriend Jordan and said he planned to spend some time with her and son Harvey this weekend.

"When you're a couple, you have to make time for each other however busy you are," he said.

And busy Peter is.

His summer tour timed to promote his latest album The Long Road Back will see him travelling the length and breadth of the country at already sold-out venues into the beginning of August.

But such is Peter's zest for success that he doesn't worry about weeks living in hotel rooms, out of suitcases.

"I'm just enjoying every moment. It's great," he said.

And his plans for the future?

Peter hopes to buy a London home, outside the capital where he can relax and unwind.

"Just to enjoy the quieter things in life," the unassuming star added.
