A burst water main has affected gas supplies to almost 300 houses in Dalton, Moldgreen and Tandem.

Northern Gas Networks said it caused water to enter the gas network on Monday evening and this morning engineers from Northern Gas Networks were continuing work to restore gas supplies.

The gas supply to 297 residential properties in Greenlea Court has been affected, along with specific sections of Cross Green Road and Dalton Green Lane.

Engineers worked through Monday night and restored supplies to 150 of the affected properties on the Greenlea Court Estate at 1.30 am today (30 September).

They now need access to all of these properties so that they can safely turn the gas back on.

Work continues to remove the water from the main supplying the remaining properties so that engineers can begin to restore the supply.

Northern Gas Networks say they have made electric heaters and portable cookers available to those customers who need them and dedicated customer care officers are on hand to ensure that vulnerable customers are looked after.

A customer drop in centre is open at The Stag Inn, 456 Wakefield Road, where customers can get the latest information on the progress.

Neil Armstrong, customer operations area manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “Our engineering teams are doing everything they can to get this situation resolved and restore supplies to all customer affected as quickly as possible.

"The safety of our customers is our first priority. If anyone in the area has questions or concerns, or would like extra heaters or cooking facilities, please give our Customer Care team a ring or speak to one of representatives on site, and we’ll get right on it.”

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "We're currently dealing with an incident at Greenlea Court in Huddersfield after a water main burst, leading to around 200 properties in the area being without water yesterday afternoon.

"We've now resumed supplies to all properties and we're currently working to provide a permanent fix to the pipe.  We'd like to apologise to anyone affected and we will continue to support Northern Gas Networks to investigate issues with a gas main in the area."
