It's one of the biggest hits in cinematic history and made over $1bn in box office revenue.

And at the weekend 600 people turned out over two days to join in the songs in a special sing-a-long showing of Frozen at the Rex Cinema in Elland.

The idea of putting on a special version of the film was the brainchild of Vicki Green, a mother-of-two from Linthwaite and Ali Jones founder of children’s charity Ruddi’s Retreat.

Vicki, 30, said: “It was quite emotional and a fabulous experience. It was such a popular idea that when we released the tickets on Facebook it had sold out in 48 hours and we had to put another day on to cope with the demand.

“We knew the cinema had 300 seats but we thought we would be doing well to sell 250 so for it be quite so popular was amazing. We have people coming from as far away as Leeds and Halifax. And special thanks to Mike Gill at the Rex for all his support.”

In true showbiz style many of those who turned up arrived in fancy dress as characters from the shows.

Featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, Frozen was the surprise 3D computer-animated musical fantasy hit released by Walt Disney last year to enthusiastic audiences across the world.

When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless and doe-eyed optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell.

Although the film appeals particularly to female audiences Vicki said there were plenty of men there too. One of the countries that took Frozen to their hearts was Japan although it did not always enjoy a happy ending over there.

One woman who became obsessed with the film cajoled her husband into watching it then divorced him when she asked him what he thought and he replied that he thought it was only “OK.”
